    Left Behind: The Answers

Why did the Red Rock Mysteries end with book 15? What happens next to Ashley and Bryce? I love those books and want more!
The exciting series featuring young twin detectives ended because the authors Jerry B. Jenkins and Chris Fabry wanted to start The Wormling Series. We think you'll be glad they did. Be sure you look for these books: the first is called Book of the King. Jerry and Chris guarantee that you'll love them too. As for what happens to Ashley and Bryce after you turn the final page of book 15? That's up to you and your imagination!

When will Jerry's latest hardcover releases be available in paperback?
You can expect to see softcover editions of hardcover classics like The Rapture and Shadowed come out within six to nine months after the initial releases. Thanks for your patience! In the meantime, why not order an audio version to tide you over?

I just finished Kingdom Come but didn't want it to end. Is there more to come?
No. The Left Behind series is finished. Kingdom Come, was the capper and 16th book in the series which began in 1995 with the book, Left Behind. However, you can also find audio versions of the series to enjoy. And many folks have said that they're thrilled to have the complete set of books now available to read from start to finish. Jerry's next stand-alone novel, Riven, releases July 22, 2008 from Tyndale. You won't want to miss this one.

I heard there were prequels to the Left Behind series. Is that true?
Yes -- you heard right! We're pleased to inform you that Book #13, Left Behind - The Rising was the first in a trilogy of prequels. The second book was The Regime and the third book,The Rapture released on 6/6/06. If you're a Left Behind fan you must read these three volumes that explain what happened to all your favorite characters before they were left behind.

How many books are in the Left Behind - The Kids series? I want to make sure I don't miss a single one
Forty books were written for the Left Behind - The Kids series. And you're right. You definitely don't want to miss a single one of these action-packed adventures. These best-sellers continue to be favorite reading for both kids and adults.

I'm doing a report (or helping a student work on one) for school on Jerry B. Jenkins. Do you have some detailed biographical information that would help?
Thanks for asking. Here's what we can tell you!

Mr. Jenkins is first and foremost a novelist. His first books were the Margo Mysteries. Check out Jerry’s Biography for a more complete listing of his books including the dates the Margo books were released. He has also written many “as-told-to” biographies in which he writes a book in first-person for someone else.

It shouldn’t surprise you to find out that Mr. Jenkins does a lot of reading to keep current with what works and doesn’t work in top-selling books. He also spends a great deal of time doing research online.

As for schooling, Mr. Jenkins attended the equivalent of two years of college and holds honorary doctorate degrees. However, today, for any writer to get their foot in the door with a publisher, he’d recommend at least a four-year degree along with as much practical writing experience as you can get. Mr. Jenkins also has four honorary doctorates.

Mr. Jenkins loves actually sitting down and writing but doesn’t especially enjoy the editing and re-editing that must also accompany every writing project. What writer does? Mr. Jenkins loves his work and can’t imagine doing anything else. He hopes to continue writing for many, many years to come. There are countless book ideas he’d like to tackle but the difficulty is in finding the time to write everything he has in mind!

Many have asked how the idea came about for the Left Behind books. Dr. Tim LaHaye came up with the concept of basing a series of books on the Scriptures from Revelation (and elsewhere) about the Rapture of the Church prior to the End-Times tribulation. Dr. LaHaye was on a plane at the time, which explains why the main character was a pilot. Over the years we’ve gotten a lot of questions about the Left Behind – both the and The Kids series. So to answer those who want to know…it usually takes 6-8 weeks to write one book. And that’s writing fast!

Mr. Jenkins loves reading all kinds of books so it’d be difficult for him to pick a favorite. He'd also have a tough time picking the book he would call his favorite among his own published works. That's like asking him to select his favorite son, which would be impossible! You’ll probably want to read a couple of his books (maybe one of his new bestsellers, like The Wormling Series or The Jesus Chronicles) in preparation for your report. Check out the Online Resource Center for a listing of available books.

One comment that we’ve gotten from numerous readers is that they’ve found the Left Behind books to be both challenging and encouraging. The characters seem so real that they make you want to do more for the Lord. That’s exactly the impact Mr. Jenkins and Dr. LaHaye were hoping for and why they wrote the books in the first place.

Mr. Jenkins was born in Kalamazoo, MI , on September 23, 1949, and has wanted to be a writer since he was in high school. He was injured playing sports and started writing stories so he could get into the games for free! Soon he realized that he had found his niche. He and his wife have three boys and two grandchildren. To find out more biographical information click on “Jerry’s Biography” in the left navigation. For information on Dr. LaHaye please visit www.timlahaye.com.

Mr. Jenkins considers Sammy Tippit, an international evangelist, to be a hero. Sammy Tippit is a man totally sold out to Christ and who travels the globe telling others about the Savior. Mr. Jenkins wrote a book called God’s Secret Agent that tells Sammy’s story. If you’re interested in growing as a writer you should read all you can and write…anything, just to get practice. Get a copy of Strunk & White’s Elements of Style and memorize it. That will definitely help your writing.

Mr. Jenkins lives in Colorado, Dr. LaHaye in California. Dr. LaHaye provides theological details for Mr. Jenkins, who actually does the writing. The two of them met and became friends when they began working on the Left Behind books. Mr. Jenkins’s book, Shadowed, was the final book in an exciting new trilogy set before the Rapture. A trio of books set "Before They Were Left Behind," opens with The Rising. The second book in the trilogy is The Regime and the third book, released on 6/6/06 will be The Rapture. The last book Kingdom Come has also released. His next major release is Riven, which hits bookshelves on July 22, 2008. Also, in case you were wondering there are a total of 40 books in The Kids series.

With the freedom that comes with being a bestselling author comes an enormous responsibility to keep his faith and family first as well as be a careful steward of the financial gifts God has given him. As for hobbies, Mr. Jenkins likes listening to the Beatles, Beach Boys and Bee Gees. He also loves playing racquetball and Scrabble. Most of all he enjoys spending time with his three sons (and four grandchildren), and his wife Dianna.

Thanks so much for your interest in Mr. Jenkins.

When will the next Left Behind film come out? Are there plans for a Left Behind - The Kids movie?
We have no information available at this time about the production of another Left Behind film. You might want to visit www.leftbehind-themovie.com to see if they have further details. Also, there are no pending plans for a film based on the Left Behind - The Kids books. Perhaps one day such a movie will be made. Based on our mail response, there are plenty of fans who would love to see this happen and quite a few who might like to star in such a production! Unfortunately, due to staff constraints we are not able to answer queries on this subject at the present time. Thanks for understanding.

The Left Behind books have brought me closer to God, but I still have a lot of questions. Where can I find more answers?
It's exciting to hear so many stories of those who have come to a deeper understanding of their need for a Savior through the Left Behind books. To read more of these amazing testimonies of people who found Jesus Christ through the series, explore These Will Not Be Left Behind. As Christians, we believe that Jesus was a perfect sacrifice who died for our sins and that all who believe in Him will join Him in heaven. One need only repent of the wrongdoing in his or her life and by faith accept Jesus as Savior to become a child of God. It's as simple and uncomplicated as that. Once you've made the decision to follow Jesus you'll want to read your Bible regularly, pray for direction, and find a good, local church so you can spend time with other Christians. Here are also some excellent online resources that will help bring you into a closer relationship with God. Please explore Billy Graham's website, Luis Palau's ministry at www.gospelcom.net, Campus Crusade for Christ or Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.

Why do I have to wait so long between books? Can't Jerry write any faster?
Probably, but you wouldn't like the result. Few novelists turn out books faster than 10 major titles in fewer than seven years. Please be patient; it'll be worth the wait! The next book in the Left Behind series, Kingdom Come, will release in Spring 2007. In the meantime, we hope you take the opportunity to enjoy the prequel trilogy, The Rising, The Regime, and The Rapture, and Jerry and Tim's newest collaboration John's Story, the first book in The Jesus Chronicles from Putnam Praise. The prequels and John's Story are available in bookstores everywhere.

I'm still not sure about a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. Can you convince me?
Probably not. You've asked for a detailed theological explanation which is impossible to provide in this impersonal forum especially without the give-and-take and one-on-one communication that's necessary for such a discussion. Our suggestion? Please borrow or buy a copy of Are We Living in the End Times? by Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye (Tyndale House, 1999). This book clearly and concisely sets out the basis for our belief in a Pre-Tribulation Rapture. After you read the extensive Scriptural references you'll be in a much better position to decide for yourself what makes sense on this crucial issue. However, no matter what you think of our perspective, the key point is that we must all be ready for the return of Jesus Christ...and tell our family, friends, and neighbors the Good News so that they too will be ready for the Glorious Appearing of our Savior!

How do Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye work together? Who writes what?
The book series was Dr. Tim LaHaye's idea. He asked Jerry Jenkins to write a series of novels to fit his view of the End Times. And that's exactly what Jerry did. Dr. LaHaye is the biblical expert and prophetic scholar and Jerry Jenkins is the author who writes the books. To find out more about Dr. Tim LaHaye please visit his website at www.TimLaHaye.com.

What's the significance of "216"? It's driving me crazy!
Each of the numbers representing the various regions of the post-Rapture world is a permutation of "666," the mark of the beast. “216” is but one of the products of these multiple calculations. If you do the math, you’ll ultimately figure out all of the equations behind the terrible marks. And that's as much of a hint as we're going to give you. Just don't give up. It'll work itself out eventually!

Writing Hints and Tidbits: The Answers

I want to get into writing. What should I do?
Regardless of your age, you should consider taking some journalism classes. evening schools often offer journalism courses. Most of the published writers Mr. Jenkins knows have either a background in newspaper or magazine journalism or have studied the same. Such experience will prove invaluable to a beginning writer. You'll also want to learn more about the Jerry B. Jenkins Christian Writers Guild. Visit us at
www.ChristianWritersGuild.com and request a free introductory packet. Students around the world are discovering ways to improve their skills and broaden their writing focus through the Guild. Maybe you could too...

May I proofread your next novel?
Though you may find a few errors and typos in the published versions of the Left Behind series, it's not for lack of proofreading. Up to ten professionals read these manuscripts at the various stages of the process, but still errors find their way into print. After publication, the pages are then tweaked with each new print run. So please feel free to point out errors you find and we'll be sure to pass this information on to Tyndale House. Meanwhile, we are not looking for proofreaders at earlier stages of the cycle.

How much does it cost to publish a book?
Unless you're planning to publish the book yourself, it shouldn't cost you anything. Expenses involved in acquiring, editing, proofing, typesetting, printing, binding, storing, and shipping (including marketing and advertising and sales) are the responsibility of the publisher. If you have to pay to have it done, it's unlikely you'll ever recoup that expense. If no one is interested in your manuscript and you have the means to have it done yourself, just realize that it will be a costly endeavor. For some people, it's still worth it. The best judge of the value of your work, however, is in whether you can find a publisher who will take the risk for you.

Why do publishers and magazine editors reject my manuscripts without telling me what's wrong with them?
Sadly, it is not the publisher's responsibility to teach, train, or coach you or critique your work. They are in the business of finding worthy material to publish, and they know it when they see it. Most editors would love to be able to help you because they want to nurture good writing, but they simply don't have the time with all their other responsibilities. The Jerry B. Jenkins Christian Writers Guild does have a Critique Service. To find out more about how to get an honest, thorough review of your writing sample, please visit the Guild online at www.ChristianWritersGuild.com.

Will you read my manuscript and advise me?
As much as Mr. Jenkins might enjoy that, he simply cannot help you. Over the years he has done much reviewing and consulting, but he's at a point where he cannot do justice to someone's work in the limited time he has between projects. Further, it would not be fair to accept some manuscripts while turning down others. He is forced, therefore, to encourage you to find someone else you trust to help bring you along the path toward publication. Mr. Jenkins does teach at writers conferences, but the best bet for getting personalized help with your manuscript is to become a member of the Jerry B. Jenkins Christian Writers Guild. Each student has a personal mentor and an opportunity for enormous spiritual and professional growth.

How do I get a book published?
Read everything there is to read about preparing a proper manuscript and how to submit it to publishers. The competition is fierce, the odds are greatly against you, but if your idea is worthy and there's an audience for your work, it will happen. There are no shortcuts, and much must be done correctly (format, presentation, etc.). But these things are clearly spelled out in magazines likeThe Writer and Writer's Digest and books they publish. Don't expect someone to tell you something you can learn on your own. The most common mistake beginning writers make is starting with a book rather than shorter material. Starting your writing career with a book is like starting your education in graduate school. We all had to start in kindergarten, and while there are exceptions in both education and publishing, it's best to be prepared to start at the beginning.
