The Book of the King

Book 1 in The Wormling Series
Available now

Written for older elementary and middle school age, The Book of the King opens in fantasy, forges on into what we call reality, and then combines the two in a riveting story. This is just the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new Christian fantasy series, The Wormling. Gifted, lonely, shy, and a rather unlikely hero, young Owen Reeder lives his life within the pages of the books in his father’s used book store. From the onset of this story, the audience discovers that names are importantly symbolic, along with objects, actions, and nuances. Just a few pages into this book, Owen collides with a desperate king, a gang of criminally-mean high school bullies, a father who is barely like a father, evil dragons and their man-eating relatives, unstoppable villains, untrustworthy and trustworthy girls, and a supremely essential book and the creature which inhabits it. – In the midst of all this, Owen is running for his life on a quest which leads through danger into the unknown of another world.

Author Jerry Jenkins—noted for the Left Behind series, his work with Moody magazine, and the creator of the Gil Thorp sports comic strip—collaborates with Chris Fabry, writer, broadcaster, and radio playwright. They enthrall their audience with graphic detail; an intimate, secret-sharing style; grand, widely scoped adventures happening in convincing, other-worldly ways; intrigue; and a taste for various unusual animals.

Many Christian themes appear in The Book of the King that flow naturally throughout the story, growing in compass as the characters grow in personality. In a chatty, clarify-the-situation style, the authors now and then point out a moral. These themes include: evil in mankind; treachery from friends; lies vs. truth; various kinds of courage from forthright to knowing when to run; as well as recognizing both the dangerous and the helpful. Savvy mentors will find that discussion flows easily from these ideas. Further themes are only beginning to be seen in this first story, and they surely will gain form in future books.

The Book of the King closes on a fascinating note, but does not end. Readers are left saying, “Hurry up with the next installment!” Although a wholly-modern tale with fear, danger, and imminent violence abounding, the writing style is reminiscent of the nineteenth-century Christian classic author Charles Kingsley (most noted for Water Babies). The reader needs only a slight twist of imagination to inwardly hear the authors Jenkins and Fabry narrating this tale. This facility makes The Book of the King a splendid read out-loud volume for families and other groups. – Donna Eggett, Christian Book Previews.com

Mark's Story
The Jesus Chronicles
Book Two
The New Bestselling Series
From the Left Behind authors
Available Now

Mark's Story opens on the evening of the last day of Jesus as man. The young Mark hears Jesus' prophecies of the events that are to come, and bears witness to some of the most pivotal events in human history, including Judas Iscariot's betrayal, Peter's denial of his Master, and Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection as the risen Lord.

In the years after, following in the footsteps of his friend and mentor Peter, Mark becomes an ardent follower of Jesus and a devoted disciple of Christianity, spreading the Word beyond Jerusalem and into the world. Mark urges Peter to recount to him the stories of Jesus' life on Earth -- His messages, His miracles, and His everlasting promises to His people -- and compiles what becomes canonized as the Gospel of Mark.

Mark chronicles the growth of the early Christian church, the struggles of Jesus' followers, and the persecution they endured from a hostile world. Mark's Story is a thrilling account that vividly depicts the last day before Jesus' crucifixion and the danger that early believers faced as they boldly proclaimed Jesus as Christ the Lord. Their bravery laid the foundation for the early church, and their fervent passion for the Word reverberates throughout the world today.

The Dawn of the Millennial Kingdom...

Rayford Steele had to admit that the first time he saw a bear and then a leopard moving about in public, something niggled at him to keep his distance, to not show fear, to make no sudden movements. But when he saw the bear and the cat cooperate to climb a tree and make a meal of leaves and branches, he was emboldened to trust God for the whole promise. It wasn't just he who had become a vegetarian. It was true of all former carnivores.

Rayford moved quietly to the trunk of the tree and watched the animals cavort and eat. And when a branch fell, he himself tasted the leaves. He enjoyed fruit and vegetables more, but he could see what the creatures found in the plants. He trusted Christ to calm him when the great leopard leaped down and nuzzled his leg the way a house cat would, purring, then sitting to rest.

As for the bear, it ignored him and stretched out beside the big cat. Talk about a whole new world....

John's Story:
The Last Eyewitness

Rome, A.D. 95

Bright sunlight interrupted the old evangelist's reverie, and when dust invaded his stone chamber, John was spurred to stand and peek out. He had been extradited the night before in chains from Ephesus to Rome, the capital of the empire, where he was to stand trial before Caesar Domitian.

Once Jesus' youngest disciple, John was nearing his ninetieth year, and his long, lanky frame bore a massive crown of white hair and a full, long beard that framed his leathery face. Thick brows hooded dark eyes his friends had always described as piercing, at times accusatory. Robust for his age, especially considering the long, arduous journey, he had been unbound and imprisoned in a dungeon cell beneath the Colosseum. Now, at dawn, he discovered that by standing on tiptoe he could peer out a tiny barred opening at ground level to the vast stadium's athletic fields.

It was much too early for festivities, and yet men, and women, and animals had begun to fill the grounds. Large, powerful women practiced wrestling holds in the rising dust, and brightly costumed dwarves ran in place and stretched. Ferocious animals, prodded and agitated by their handlers, were led snarling to cages. John had only heard of such bizarre acts, confirming reports of the emperor's fascination with the macabre. Clearly, all these participants were preparing for some spectacle. John could assume only that it was his own execution. His stomach growling, he retreated to sit with his back to the wall and pray silently.

Writing for the Soul:
Instruction and Advice
From an
Extraordinary Writing Life

Available Now

So there I sat, writing away -- as I had nearly every day for more than twenty years -- when Rick Christian called. He was my agent.

I liked the sound of having an agent and worked it into as many conversations as possible. I had written and published ninety books before even considering an agent, and to my mind I was already living a writer's dream. While mainstream fiction was my love, I'd made a healthy six-figure income largely by writing famous people's stories. These hadn't been ghost jobs. My name had appeared on the covers of biographies and autobiographies of many luminaries.

But of course, the average reader doesn't notice the name of a faceless writer, and more than once I was asked if I had read a certain book -- when I had written it. I was the most famous author no one had ever heard of. Having an agent and being able to say My agent this and My agent that should have lent some credibility to my invisible career, but more likely it repulsed even those who loved me.

Well, the cliche is that big doors turn on small hinges, and the small hinge that day was Rick Christian's call. He had no more idea than I did what would come of that short conversation. To the best of my memory, it went like this:

"Have you ever met Tim LaHaye?"

"No," I said. "Familiar with him, of course."

Tim LaHaye and Jerry Jenkins
Honored with ECPA Award

At the July 2007 gathering of the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association, Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye received special awards marking the end of the monumental Left Behind series.

Jerry and Tim received the ECPA's first-ever Pinnacle Award in recognition of the outstanding success of their apocalyptic series. The books have sold more than 65 million copies since the first title came out in 1995 from Tyndale House. A total of sixteen books were released including three prequels, The Rising, The Regime, and The Rapture.

Accepting his award, Tim said the Left Behind books have been "the greatest gift that God has given me in my life" next to salvation and his spouse. He and his wife, Beverly, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Jerry said writing the books was "the privilege of a lifetime."

Left Behind Video Game Controversy
A Special Message from Jerry B. Jenkins

You may have seen or heard some of the public flap over the Left Behind: Eternal Forces video game. Some have said it is gratuitously violent and has Christian characters targeting gays, Muslims, Jews, devout adherents of other faiths, and even Christians who disagree with Dr. LaHaye and me over various theological issues.

This is ridiculous to the point of lunacy and clearly comes from people who have not seen the game and have an obvious agenda. If you have wondered why Dr. LaHaye and I would have anything to do with a game that would target the very individuals we are commanded to love and persuade, you are not alone. We are as puzzled as you.

From the beginning, we have been jealous about the subsidiary rights to Left Behind. We have turned down all sorts of offers to capitalize on the name with pins, pens, mugs, candles, jewelry, and even board games. Our sole purpose in the writing was to declare a message in the hope that fewer people would be left behind, so unless a product can expand that message --- as have the kids books, graphic novels (comics), and movies --– we have stood firm.

When first we heard of a video game, we were as skeptical as anyone and insisted on hearing the idea directly from the planners. We were pleased to find that they were thorough professionals, shared our faith, and were as committed as we were to have the Christian message be clear. Visit the official Left Behind Game site.

The result is a game that is beautifully rendered, clearly carries our message (indeed, we have already heard of one young man who has become a believer through playing it), is strategic rather than only warfare based, and is no more violent than the Lone Ranger or Roy Rogers episodes I grew up watching. Unlike typical gory video games that show flying body parts, victims shot in our game fall in a puff of smoke.

Yes, lives are lost when believers defend themselves, but more points are scored by building the Tribulation Force and its infrastructure. There is zero targeting of specific people groups. The enemy are the forces of the antichrist who have already taken the mark of the beast and committed themselves to his service.

I hope this gives you enough information to evaluate what you hear or read, and we trust you will check it out for yourself if you have further questions. Find out more about purchasing the game from Amazon. Eternal Forces has been approved by Focus on the Family, which is extremely careful about such matters. Read the Focus Plugged In review.

Thanks. Jerry
